39.39 "O my people! You act according to your stand; and I will act according to my stand; and you will know very soon."
In your life you will come across so many things and hear to so many things as dos and don'ts; you will take to your mind only that fits your common sense and the righteousness that you come to infer using your own distinguishing ability. If you fail to use your own power to assess what is bad and what is evil, then you will be following some section or band of people who have become senseless and thoughtless.
This was admonished by the messenger of that people to whom he was sent. They were advised to follow their own criterion and not to follow any leader, religious or otherwise. But they slighted aside the warning and stuck to their leaders' rulings who divided them, each leader having a sway over their respective groups. Usually we witness such divisions and groups in religions and politics. If you fall to these leaders your individual life will be in fetters and even God does not help you in the end.
Despite this warning they stuck to their leaders disowning them their individual right to living a life of honor and grace. Therefore the messenger says: "O my people! You act according to your stand; and I will act according to my stand; and you will know very soon when you find your lives under your leaders as miserable and despicable."
